Louisiana Juvenile
SHESA KNOCKOUTCARTEL
by Michael Compton
In her fourth lifetime outing, Shesa Knockoutcartel earned her graduation papers in stylish fashion, proving best in the $75,000 Louisiana Juvenile at
Delta Downs July 31.
Ridden by Everardo Rodriguez, Shesa
Knockoutcartel broke alertly in the 350-yard event, took command at the start and received every call. She dueled early with TF Fearless Runaway before kicking clear of the field in the lane, ultimately cross- ing the finish 1 1/4-lengths to the good of distant runner-up Stratosphear. In winning for the first time, the precocious sorrel filly stopped the timer
in :17.638 and earned an 89 speed index for trainer Martin Trejo.
A homebred for BM AQ Racing LLC, Shesa Knockoutcartel, second in the Lee Berwick Futurity trials in her previous outing, improved her record to 4-1-2-0, and the $45,000 winner’s share of this purse increased her earnings to $52,200.
Bred in Louisiana, Shesa Knockoutcartel is out of the multiple stakes-producing mare Lady Knockout, and hails from the female family of All American Futurity-G1 winner Falling In Loveagain.
Stratosphear (One Sweet Jess-Corona Starlette) surged to secure the place spot under Manuel Gutierrez for owner Guerras Racing Stables and trainer Jose Lopez. JRS Runaway Dash (Sir Runaway Dash-Hiclass Huntress), with Rolando Pina in the irons, finished third for owner Benito Garcia and trainer Orlando Orozco. TF Fearless Runaway (Sir Runaway Dash-Freda Blue), Flyin The Red Eye
(Jet Black Patriot-Lovethewayyoulie), Greatest Of All Time (The Louisiana Cartel-Shakemupperry), Dianetoseparatefromu (Inseperable-Coronas Concierge), Flying Adelia (Apollitical Blood-Flying Marguerita), Sweater Tic (The Louisiana Cartel-Lil Miss Hatch) and Patriotic Trump (Jet Black Patriot- Princess Lil Bit) completed the order of finish.
Live Oak Stakes
RACING KANE
by Michael Compton
At seven years of age, Racing Kane is certainly not the youngest runner in the stakes ranks at Delta Downs, but the veteran campaigner has plenty of life in his legs as evidenced by the sorrel gelding’s victory in the $50,000 Live Oak Stakes on July 31.
Ridden by Bobby Ransom, Racing Kane broke smartly in the 870-yard marathon and dueled early with U R Jess Blue. After he put away the early leader and grabbed command, Racing Kane shrugged off race favorite Freakin Patriot Dash and held at bay a late rally from No Key Needed to prevail by a head at the finish.
Trained by Telma Loya, Racing Kane stopped the timer in :46.891, earning an 85 speed index.
It was the first win from three starts this season for Racing Kane and his ninth overall. The $30,000 winner’s share of the purse elevated his earnings
to $145,163 for owner Jesus Coronado. It was the first stakes win for Racing Kane since the 2020 Magnolia Stakes Div. 1 at Louisiana Downs.
Janelle Simon bred Racing Kane out of lightly raced Ms Janas Perry. She has produced 100% win- ners. Racing Kane is her first stakes winner.
Runner-up No Key Needed (Azoom Me Too- Key To Your Dream) just missed for owner Geral Dewitt and trainer Anthony Arey.
Freakin Patriot Dash (Game Patriot-Freakin Dash) and jockey Ubaldo Luna finished third for owner Areli Gutierrez and trainer Fructuoso Huitron. The gelding won last year’s Magnolia Stakes Div. 2 at Louisiana Downs.
Louisiana Flyboy (Jess Louisiana Blue-Fit To
Fly TB), Streak Of Music (Miracle Streak-Wire Me Music TB), U R Jess Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-U
R Blue), and Jess Louisiana Tee (Jess Louisiana Blue-Miss Ocean Tee) completed the order of finish. Zoomingprincezydeco was scratched at the gate.
Flashy Hemp Stakes
SHEZA FREIGHTTRAIN T
by Michael Compton
On a day of racing at Delta Downs that celebrated Louisiana-bred runners, it is only appropriate that Sheza Freighttrain T kicked off festivities with a
victory in the $50,000 Flashy Hemp Stakes.
Jockey Rolando Pina has been aboard the talented
3-year-old filly for all but one of her 13 outings and he was back in the irons for the Flashy Hemp Stakes. Despite breaking in at the start, Sheza Freighttrain T quickly engaged the leader Five Bar Miracles in the 330-yard test. After putting away that rival in the lane, Sheza Freighttrain T shrugged off the challenge of Eyeondaprize and jockey Everardo Rodriguez to prevail by a head at the finish.
Sent off as the race favorite for trainer Eric Long, Sheza Freighttrain T covered the distance in :16.607 and earned a 93 speed index. The $30,000 winner’s share of the purse increased the Louisiana-bred filly’s bankroll to $413,258 for owner Patrick Richardson.
As a 2 year old last year, Sheza Freighttrain T won the Lassie Futurity-RG2 at Delta Downs and was second in the LQHBA Sale Futurity-RG1. She has been in sharp form in her 3-year-old campaign, having won the Delta Dash in May and the Selma Stakes at Sam Houston on July 2. Bred in Louisiana by Rusty Trahan, Sheza Freighttrain B is produced from the Carters Cartel mare Cloning Around.
Runner-up Eyeondaprize (Fast Prize Jordan-Good Game Meg), the second wagering choice, is owned by Rosendo Valdez and trained by Rosendo Valdez Jr.
Tee Zo (Tee Cos-Sayin The Blues) rallied late under Arturo Alvarez to finish third for owner Joseph Landreneau and trainer Lanny Keith.
Five Bar Miracles (Five Bar Cartel-Expect Miracles TB), One Sweet Filly (One Sweet Jess-Filly Er Up), Wicked Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Royal Wicked Witch), Sheza Jet Stream (Jet Black Patriot- Reckless Fast Dash) and HH Gailforce (Freighttrain B-Open My Prize) completed the order of finish.
