Fastest qualifier Jess Savin Candy has two Grade 1 wins under his belt coming into the All American Futurity. In his first out on May 28, the gelding just missed and finished second in his Ruidoso Futurity trial for the 2nd overall fastest qualifying spot. He came back in the $1,000,000 fi- nals, hopped at the start, and drove past his rivals to put them away for his first stakes victory. He hasn’t lost since. He won his trial to the Rainbow Futurity easily by 1 1/4-lengths and was the 2nd overall qualifier. In the $1,000,000 finals, Jess Savin Candy gave a determined performance and was just up at the wire for a nose victory.
In his trial to the All American Futurity, Jess Savin Candy broke out from out- side post and was given the 6th call at the start. He was in third at the first call, had a 1/2-length lead at the top of the stretch and maintained that advantage all the way to the wire. This time, he scored the fastest qualifying time and he’s in position to score the prestigious All American Triple Crown and become only the second horse to do so since Special Effort in 1981. Jess Savin Candy was bred by Jim and Donna O’Neal and is owned by Dutch Masters III,
that includes Dr. James Streelman and William Dale. John Stinebaugh is the conditioner, and Francisco Calderon has been aboard in all of his starts.
FDD Scout is a stakes winner coming into the All American Futurity. He made his first out on May 29 in the Ruidoso Futurity trials, prevailing in his trial and qualifying to the $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile where he over- came a slight hop and a brush at the break to power on to victory. Next were the Rainbow Futurity trials. He once again won his heat, this time wire-to-wire by 1 3/4-lengths. He clocked in for the 7th qualifying spot to the finals. In those, FDD Scout bumped at the break and drifted out, finishing fourth in a very tight finish.
Making his next start in the All American Futurity trials, FDD Scout broke on the lead from the 2-gate. He was 1/2-length on top at the first call and he widened his advantage throughout the remaining distance, gaining 1 length by the top of the stretch and finishing 1 1/2-lengths to the good. The gelding is the second fastest overall quali- fier to the finals. FDD Scout is bred and owned by Paragon Farms LLC and Trey Wood is the conditioner. Jockey Tanner Thedford has been aboard for all of his starts.
