Bred in New Mexico by Samantha and Lilly Leyba, Brookes Legacy is out of the Grade 1 winning mare Apollitical Brooke. An earner of $169,590 during her stellar racing career, Apollitical Brooke recorded five wins, including a victory in the 2017 Southwest Juvenile Championship Stakes-G1 at Zia Park for owners Samantha and Lilly Leyba. She was also a finalist in the 2018 Zia Park Championship-G1 and in the 2017 Hobbs America Futurity-G2. She has produced one winner from two starters.
Brookes Legacy traces back to her third dam, the winning and stakes placed mare Runaway Dee Dee. In 1998, she placed second in the Colors of the Wind Handicap and the Sundowner Trailer Stakes, and
she was also a finalist in the Retama Park Derby-G2. She has produced 19 winners from 26 starters inclduing two stakes winners and three stakes placed.
Multiple stakes-placed Fanncee
(Big Daddy Cartel-Astica) finished second under jockey Adrian Ramos at odds of 3-1. Owned by MJ Farms and trained by Wesley Giles, the 5-year-old mare is a homebred
for MJ Farms. Fanncee placed third in her previous out in the New Mexico Fillies and Mares Championship Stakes on Dec. 11 and the Champagne Lane Stakes on Oct. 1.
Finishing in third place was Tina Katarina (First Moonflash-Catch This Scooter). Piloted
by jockey Cristian Reyes, Tina Katarina,
who was dismissed at odds of 20-1, is owned by Edilberto Estrada Cano and is trained
by Fernando Carrete. Joyce Erickson bred
the 5-year-old mare in New Mexico. Tina Katarina is a winner of three races and she placed third in the 2022 Jess Burner Stakes at Ruidoso Downs back in June.
EZ On My Mind (Genuine Strawfly- Shirleys Honor TB) originally crossed the finish in fourth but was disqualified for
interference and placed last. Mi Moonflash (First Moonflash-Mi Camila TB),
Get Down Dragon (Zulu Dragon-
Get Down Bambi), HS Golden Eagle (Osbaldo-Catchtherain TB),
Icy Morning Breeze (Winners Version- Icy Storm TB), Crown N Royal Gal (Jesse James Jr-First Cowgirl Flash), and EBW Magdalena (Zulu Dragon- Shesabancheewoman) completed the remaining order of finish.
