HS Paul Walker’s winning connections include owner/breeder Hubaldo Solis, trainer Alfredo Gomez and jockey Hector Aldrete.
“He’s got a lot of speed after 350 yards up to 440,” Solis said.
Not only did owner Hubaldo Solis breed HS Paul Walker, he owns both the sire, Osbaldo, and dam, Strawberryberryfast. The road to New Mexico-bred HS Paul Walker began with Osbaldo. Solis bred the sire as well, a 2009 son of Jesse James Jr out of Shes So Blazin. From 2011-2017, Osbaldo started 43 times, winning 12 races, including his first six starts as a two year old. Osbaldo won five stakes, including the 2015 Jess Burner Memorial Handicap-RG1. “The stallion made over $455,000. He was a runner, too,” Solis said.
Solis, who is in the drywall business in Peralta, New Mexico, has raced horses since 1992. He stands Osbaldo at Rancho Dorado in Anthony, New Mexico. Solis said he breeds several mares to the stallion each year and that with outside mares, Osbaldo bred 30 mares last year. “I hope we can breed more this year,” Solis said.
Osbaldo-sired runners Solis has bred include HS Golden Eagle, winner of the 2022 Jimmy Drake Stakes-G3 and 2021 New Mexico State Fair Futurity-G3. HS Golden Eagle had earned $346,707 through the end of 2022.
Strawberryberryfast, Solis’ homebred
mare and the dam of HS Paul Walker, has produced nine winners from 11 starters. Those runners include 2016 New Mexico Breeders Futurity-RG3 winner A Super Sonic Boom, 2020 New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes winner Blazinberryberryfast, and stakes-placed Vicente Y Su Corona.
Strawberryberryfast’s winners also include To Fast To Furious, a 2013 filly by Jesse James Jr. Because of that filly, Solis named HS Paul Walker after the late actor Paul Walker, who starred in several of the “Fast and the Furious” movies.
Jockey Juan Rivas piloted Fly On Down (One Handsome Man-Never The Same) to second for owner Dalia Aranda and trainer Jose Galvan. Fly On Down won the 2022 Jess Burner Stakes.
Don Chuy C (First Moonflash-Jess Say Bye Bye), ridden by Adrian Ramos, owned by Jesus Carrasco and trained by Jaime Aldavaz Sr., finished
third. He won the 2021 Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship Stakes-G1.
Completing the remaining order of finsish was Jess Ring The Bell (Jess A Chicks-First Tinkerbell) in fourth, then Bigg Dee (Big Daddy Cartel-Miss Woody Dee), Man Of Faith (One Handsome Man-Rockets Glare), Hunky McGoo (Big Daddy Cartel-Physical Touch), Dragon On Ice (Zulu Dragon-Vanil On Ice), Jessies Allstar (Jesse James Jr-Woodys Allstar), and Big Crush BB (Big Daddy Cartel- Eagles First Down).
HS Paul Walker heads to the winner’s circle.
