HS Paul Walker captured the first stakes win of his career in the $100,000 Red or Green Handicap-RG2 at Sunland Park on Jan. 7.
Trained by Alfredo Gomez and ridden by jockey Hector Aldrete and sent away as the second choice, HS Paul Walker broke well from the 8-post in third position but managed to get up for first by the first stretch and then led every subsequent call of the 400 yards. He battled with Fly On Down to the wire, edging that rival by a neck and stopping the timer in :19.517 for a 101 speed index. The $60,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his lifetime earnings to $278,242.
HS Paul Walker’s race record now stands
at eight wins. He ran second in the 2018 New Mexico Classic Futurity-RG2 and third in
the 2022 First Moonflash Maturity-RG2. In his last prior start, HS Paul Walker finished first in the 2022 Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship Stakes-G1 by 1 1/4-lengths, but he was disqualified and placed fourth for bumping a horse just after the start.
