Lisa Beauprez was looking forward to traveling to Indiana to see Nothin Like You compete in the $158,127 Adequan Derby
Challenge Championship-G3 at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Oct. 22. But an accident involving a gate and some show heifers put her in the hospital with a broken pelvis, and she had to watch the race on television.
Fortunately, Nothin Like You came through for Beauprez to win the race, his fourth stakes victory. “It made the aches and pains feel a little bit better when you saw him cross that finish line and run the race that he did,” Beauprez said.
The 2-1 second choice to favored B Leaving, Nothin Like You broke on top and drifted out, but jockey Stormy Smith straightened him and they remained in front throughout and scored by 1-length in :20.021 for a 91 speed index. The $72,738 winner’s share of the purse brought his bankroll to $274,826.
