                     RACING NEWS
Nothin Like You’s winning connections include owner Bradbury Racing, trainer John Hammes, and jockey Stormy Smith.
“That last Derby he missed the break (when third in the Altoona Derby),” said trainer John Hammes. “This one he broke like he’s supposed to and ran a pretty impressive race. He was still moving at the end of it—he wasn’t weakening.”
Hammes has trained for the Bradbury family for decades, which has included five generations of Nothin Like You’s pedigree. “We just think of him as family,” said Beauprez of the trainer.
Hammes is the son-in-law of the late Marvin Willhite. Willhite and Lisa’s father were partners in many racehorses, and both are members of the American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame.
Lisa Beauprez partnered with her father, the late Tom Bradbury, in the cattle and racehorse business in Colorado since she was 14. Nothin Like You, bred by the two of them, was foaled in 2019, the same year Bradbury passed away. Lisa, her brother Tom Jr., and their mother, Margaret, have carried on Bradbury Racing.
Lisa recalled that her son Nick had urged her to sell Nothin Like You as a ranch horse. “I kept telling him no,” said Lisa. “I just had a feeling that there were going to be big things for this horse. He had that eye appeal and seemed like he had the look. It was just a lucky thing that I decided to keep him instead of selling him.”
They did sell Nothin Like You’s dam, Whos Kissin Carter, to Butch and Nancy Wise. Whos Kissin Carter won the 2014 Rocky Mountain Futurity for Lisa and her father.
As for Nothin Like You, this was his final race this year. Hammes will prepare him for next year’s Remington Park meet and hopefully another run in the Challenge series. Once Nothin Like You has finished racing, he will have a well-earned retirement. “This is a horse who has been so good that after he done racing
he’ll just retire in one of our pastures,” Lisa said. “He’s earned that keep.”
John Stinebaugh trained second-place
B Leaving (Valiant Hero-Jess B Mighty)
for owner Alfredo Garza Rodriguez and third-place Hes Jess Dealin (Dealagame-Jess Marcy) for breeder/owner Pete Scarmardo. Francisco Calderon rode B Leaving, who won this year’s Mr. Master Bug Stakes-G3 and Adequan Ruidoso Downs Derby Challenge. Ali Rivera piloted Hes Jess
Dealin, who won this year’s Adequan Sam Houston Derby Challenge.
Completing the field were LS Jacks Back (Corona Cartel-PJ Chick In Black), Valentino Pete (Hes Relentless-Mystical Eye), Jess Special Folly V (Apollitical Jess-Special Folly Dash), Prize Kiss (Kiss My Hocks-Fast Prize Janie), Political Fire (Apollitical Jess-Lady Perry On Fire), A Seperatist V (Separatist-Velvette),
and Lockedinthezone (Apollitical Jess-Big Bizooms). Tommie Eagle was scratched.
Nothin Like You and jockey Stormy Smith returning to the winner’s circle.
