AQHA Challenge Championship Weekend
Cox Ranch Distance Challenge Championship-G1
DANCE THE DUST OFF
by Michael Compton
Dance The Dust Off was a three-time winner from four starts on the season heading into the 870-yard $107,878 Cox
Ranch Distance Challenge Championship-G1 at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Oct. 22. While there was not much dust to dance off for the multiple stakes winner, the Jewel Ramirez colorbearer danced away from his rivals in
the 870-yard marathon, one of five AQHA Challenge Championships on that night.
Ridden by Nakia Teeter, the wife of
trainer Clay Teeter and Jewel’s mom,
Dance The Dust Off raced in fourth early, tracking the pace set by odds-on favorite Wascallywittlewabbit. He hit his best stride late, collared the pacesetters in the lane, and surged clear to score by a 1/2-length in the end. Covering the distance in :46.803, earning a speed index of 86 in the impressive effort.
Sent off as the second-longest shot in the field at 18-1, Dance The Dust Off improved
