hile SFS Alice Strikes may not always win her
trials, she usually is right there for the final, which was the case in the $112,560 Polk County Derby at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 1.
In her trial, on a sloppy and sealed track, SFS Alice Strikes encountered trouble and finished sixth. For the final, she broke on top with jockey Cristian Esqueda aboard but slipped into third by the first call. She rallied and came up to reach the wire with a 1/2-length lead, stopping the time in :20.137 and posting an 87 speed index. The $50,652 winner’s share of the purse raised her earnings to $182,091.
Stacy Charette-Hill trains SFS Alice Strikes for breeder/owner Sunflower Stables LLC. SFS Alice Strikes won this year’s Cyclone Derby and the 2021 Jim Bader Futurity. Her race record now stands at 11-4-2-2.
Sunflower Stables LLC bred SFS Alice Strikes in Iowa from the stakes-placed mare So Striking, who has produced four winners from six starters. The second dam, Marys Moo Vin First, won the 1995 Ventura Handicap at Los Alamitos.

the fastest qualifier, finished second under jockey Erik Esqueda for owner Lisa Baumeister and trainer Wayne Garner. The filly ran second in the 2021 Jim Bader Futurity and third in the 2022 Cyclone Derby.
