 KJ Desparado’s winning connections include owners John and Kathy Lee and Ruben Mares, trainer Wes Giles, and jockey Adrian Ramos.
 also owned the second dam, First Place Kate. Tres Veses has produced five winners in seven starters, including stakes-placed Hardtookiss. The mare’s winner KJ Sonny P, also owned by the Lees and Mares and trained by Giles, ran fourth in the Texas Classic Derby-G1 one race before the Futurity.
KJ Desparado will now get a break before Giles points him for the 2022 Ruidoso meeting and the rich derbies there. The gelding will spend his down time with the Lees where he grew up.
“He’s an unbelievably sound horse,” said Lee. “I’m going to bring him home, turn him out in my pasture, and let him be a horse for two or three months. He’s coming home so he can put his head down and eat grass. He’ll be treated like the king that he is.”
Agustin Silva piloted San Lorenzo Tay (Ivory James-Shes Dashin First) to second for trainer Santos Carrizales Jr. and owner Rogelio Marquez Jr. San Lorenzo Tay won the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG1.
Pete Scarmardo’s homebred Jess The Leader (Jess Louisiana Blue-Cartel Leader) finished third. Francisco Calderon rode the gelding for trainer John Stinebaugh. Jess The Leader also ran third in the TQHA Sale Futurity-G2.
Completing the field were Jet Black Grace (Jet Black Patriot-Thrill And Grace), AJs Tres Of Paint (Apollitical Jess-A Tres Of Paint), Edward Ashley (One Fabulous Eagle-Ashleys Gold Digger), Special Apollitical (Apollitical Jess-Scouts Special Wagon), Rainbow To Roses (Apollitical Blood-CC Seis), Doiteze (Docs Best Card-Shakem Jess), and Mr Apollo Jess (Apollitical Jess-A Delightful Legacy).
