The gelding showed nothing but speed while surpassing his trial time by nearly a half-second. Breaking second from the inside starting gate underneath jockey Juan Pulido, Flashin Fire promptly grabbed the lead by a head at the first call and maintained a narrow advantage going into the stretch.
Flashin Fire held on to win the race by a neck, finishing in :17.480 and posting a 99 speed index, while benefiting from a 16 mph tailwind. The $147,461 payday more than doubled the gelding’s prior earnings to a new total of $292,010.
Santos Carrizales trains Flashin Fire, who was foaled out of Episode Of Fire, a lightly- raced 2008 mare. Donna McPherson and Mike Abraham bred Flashin Fire, who made his debut in April at Remington Park before heading back to his home state of New Mexico where he has raced ever since.
Jess Ring The Bell (Jess A Chicks-First Tinkerbell) finished a strong second for NJ Farms LLC. The Jorge Morales-Flores trainee had Mauro Salcedo in the irons.
A disqualification elevated Daddies Wish into third place. The filly is owned by Julie Schoenhofer and Maricela Vasquez. Eric Valenzuela is the trainer and Adrian Ramos drew the riding assignment.
LMG First Call crossed the wire third but got disqualified for interference and relegated to fifth in the final finishing order. The official remaining order of finish was: Liarliarlegsonfire (Ice On Fire V-Fishers Fib)
