 Far West Futurity
B THE ONE
by Michael Compton
BThe One was the one in the $83,000 Far West Futurity at Grants Pass Downs on Nov. 8, winning the 400-yard test as the
odds-on favorite in a field of nine juveniles. Ridden by Cesar Moreno, B The One broke
alertly on top and held the early lead. The sorrel colt dueled the length of the lane with Leaving Angelz and jockey Martin Osuna, surging clear of that rival late to score by a 1/2-length at the finish line.
B The One, the eighth- fastest qualifier for the main event, was never headed in the event and stopped the timer in :20.420 over a track labeled good, earning a speed index of 85.
In his Nov. 8 trial, B The One won his heat by 3/4-lengths.
Trained by Jose Gomez, B The One is owned by CB Stables. With the victory, the son of Five Bar Cartel
2022
notched his fourth win in eight starts, and the $33,200 winner’s share of the purse increased his career bankroll to $60,370.
Earlier this season, B The One crossed
the wire first in the Hadley-Giles Futurity at Weber Downs in New Track Record time, but was disqualified for a medication violation. He also finished second in the Beehive Futurity at Laurel Brown, but was disqualified from that
race as well. He also finished second by a slim nose in the Bitterroot Futurity-RG3 at Pocatello Downs over
the summer.
Bred in Oklahoma by
Randy and Stacy Hill, B The One is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare KT Perry.
Runner-up Leaving Angelz (Coronas Leaving You-Angel Eyez) drifted out late but held second for owner/breeder Ruben Magallanes and trainer
Hector Magallanes in a game effort. The multiple stakes-placed Oregon-bred runner finished second in his trial heat to subsequent third-place finisher Five Bar Cali.
With Jaime Lopez aboard, Five Bar Cali (Five Bar Cartel-Queen Of Cali) raced in contention throughout and finished third
for owner Jorge Carmona and trainer Danny Montes. A finalist in the Firecracker Futurity in July, Five Bar Cali was bred in California by Erik Flores.
CM Rosie At Ta Bar (Five Bar Cartel-CM Mo Baby), One Dashing Rabbit (One Dashing Eagle-My Best Bunny Yet), L Bar D Mistr Cartel (Majestic Cartel-Fly Misty Fly), Hell On Horsehoes (Fly Chisholm Fly-Just Began TB), The Streakin Dream (FDD Dynasty-The Streakin Clean), and Uncle Shine (Freighttrain B-Fergilicous) completed the order of finish. Playin the Game was scratched.
