DON CHUY C
by Michael Cusortelli
Jesus Carrasco’s Don Chuy C, a 4-year-old
son of First Moonflash trained by Jaime Aldavaz Sr., was a prompt 3-1 favorite in the $100,000 Namehimastreaker New Mexico Cup Championship-RG1 at Zia Park on Oct. 31.
Aided by a reported 17-mph tail wind, Don Chuy C was ridden by Manuel Gutierrez and they defeated Colby James by a neck in :21.328.
Don Chuy C was bred in New Mexico by Mike Abraham, and he was coming off of a third-place finish, 2 1/4 lengths behind Valiant Tiberias, in the 440-yard $300,000 Albuquerque Fall Championship-G1 on Sept. 19. The colt has won four of 19 races, and the $60,000 winner’s share of the purse from his second stakes win increased his earnings to $200,990.
Don Chuy C is out of Jess Say Bye Bye, a 10-year- old Spit Curl Jess mare. His second dam, the winning Chicks Beduino mare Ally Bye Bye, produced two stakes winners, both of whom were half-siblings to Jess Say
Bye Bye, including Grade 2 winner Missourian. Don Chuy C traces back to his third dam, Bye Bye Imgone,
a winning Oh Shiney mare who foaled graded stakes winner Sweet Bye And Bye, a half-sister to Ally Bye Bye.
Second placed Colby James (Jesse James Jr-Sandy June Bug) earned $20,000 to bring his bankroll to $425,208 from 17 outs. Mario Delgado rode the 4-year- old gelding for owner Rex Wells and trainer James Gonzales II. Marcus Medallion (Jesse James Jr-Houstons Medallion) ran third. Adrian Ramos rode the 8-year-old gelding for owner and trainer Jaime Aldavaz Sr.
Followed by No Mires A La Luna (First Moonflash- Dont Looke Ethel), Diamond And A Half (First Moonflash-Cuz Shez Famous), Flashing Moolah (First Moonflash-Chicks Chamisa), Burn One Down For Me (Woodbridge-Wish You Had One To), Your Easy Jess (Jess A Chicks-Easy Your Honor), Effortless Candy Cat (TF Featured Effort-Rime Has A Chick), and Freedom Flash (First Moonflash-Mi Camila).

CHICKY CHICKY KAI
by Danny Camp
Fillies and mares took center stage on Dec. 5 at Zia Park for the running of the 400-yard $100,000 New Mexico Fillies & Mares Championship-RG1.
Chicky Chicky Kai has lit the board in 10 of 12 races with 5 wins. Her latest win came in this race. She stepped away from the 3-post with regular rider Sergio Becerra Jr. At the half way point, they were a head in front. With some encouragement from Sergio and with much grit from the filly, they crossed the line a neck in front in :19.797 for a 91 speed index. She earned the $57,600 winner’s share, taking her lifetime earnings to $192,750. Her team includes owner Mike G. Parker and trainer Larry Chavez. She was bred in New Mexico by Dirk Jones out of Wahene Kai, dam
3 foals, with Chicky Chicky Kai as her best product.
“This is a really kind and nice filly,” said Chavez “She’s almost invisible, she’s so quiet. She stands out
on the racetrack, is a dream to gallop and a great gate horse. The owners bought her out of the Ruidoso Sale and she’s a real diamond. We’re gonna wait a few days until we decide if we’re going to turn her out or keep on going with her. She will let us know if she wants to stay in training or rest for a while.”
Mi Moonflash (First Moonflash-Mi Camila TB) drew in off the also eligible list and made the most of
it by finishing 2nd under Alfredo Sigala for trainer
Todd Fincher and owners Pierre Amestoy Jr., Leslie Amestoy & Roger K Beasley. Hollyn Bootie (Big Daddy Cartel-Datona Doll) was 3rd under Tanner Thedford
for owners Mark & Fay Annette McCloy and trainer
S. Wood. Followed by Fireball Flash (First Moonflash- Runaway Dashing), Jess To Reel (Jesse James Jr-Hot
For Reel), A Flashin Blu (First Moonflash-Blazin Blu) Diamond And A Half (First Moonflash-Cuz Shez Famous) Dark Moon (First Moonflash-Special Dark Ivory) Famous Julia (Dash For Famous-Julia James) Cartel Cambria (Big Daddy Cartel-Fdd Cambria). Kellys First Moon and Ur Daddys Lady were scratched.

APOLLITICAL PAPA
by Michael Compton
Apollitical Papa scored his second consecutive graded stakes win on Dec. 5 at Zia Park, leading from start to finish to take the 440-yard $100,000 Zia Park Championship-G1.
Winner of the James Issac Hobbs Stakes-G2,
also at Zia Park, in his previous outing, Apollitical
Papa was sent off as the race favorite in the Zia Park Championship. With jockey Noe Garcia Jr. in the irons, Apollitcal Papa grabbed command at the break and surged clear of his rivals in the lane. He maintained a clear advantage all the way through the wire, defeating Marcus Medallion and jockey Sergio Becerra Jr. by a length at the end.
In winning for the 7th time in 22 starts, Apollitical Papa stopped the timer in a lively :21.625 and earned a speed index of 101 for veteran trainer Fred Danley. A homebred for Bob and Sissie McClure, Apollitical Papa added the $58,800 winner’s share of the purse to his coffers, boosting his lifetime earnings to $212,952. The 4-year-old bay gelding was bred in Oklahoma and is produced from the Tres Seis mare Sissys Tres Girl.
Runner-up Marcus Medallion (Jesse James Jr-Houstons Medallion) finished strong but could
not match strides with the winner late and settled for the place spot. The 8-year-old graded stakes winner
is owned and trained by Jaime Aldavaz. The New Mexico-bred runner is an 8-time winner and has banked more than $400,000 in his career. KJ Frankie B (Apollitical Jess-Xquizit), ridden by Adrian Ramos, flashed speed early and held 3rd for owners John & Kathy Lee and Ruben Mares. Winner of the Lovington Stakes-G2 at Zia Park in his previous start, KJ Frankie B is a winner in 5 of 20 career starts. Followed by Flashing Moolah (First Moonflash-Chicks Chamisa), Tough to Bee (Apollitical Jess-Peppermint Seis) Bella Faccia (One Famous Eagle-Special Queen SA), and Don Chuy C (First Moonflash-Jess Say Bye Bye). A Dangerous Flash was scratched.
