Mike Hastings Memorial
OUTTA DEBT
by John Moorehouse
Outta Debt cashed in for her connections and scored her first stakes victory in the $30,000 Mike Hastings Memorial on Dec. 8 at Turf Paradise.
Mario Dominguez owns and trains the four-year- old filly, who reached the winner’s circle for the first time in 2021 and the third time in 17 career starts. The $17,670 first-place share of the purse increased her total earnings to $78,834. Outta Debt also paid off handsomely at the betting window; she went off at 17-1 odds at post time.
Outta Debt entered this race coming off a runner-up effort in the First Moonflash Stakes-RG2 at Albuquerque during Labor Day weekend and was able to build off that for her first stakes win. She broke on top from the 2-gate and burst away from her competitors, building a 1 1/2-length lead by the first call. Rider Luis Valenzuela helped that hold up; Outta Debt led by a length going into the finishing stretch and held on to win by that same margin.
Outta Debt went wire-to-wire and finished the 350-yard race in :17.468 on a fast track, registering a 106 speed index in her first-ever out at the Arizona track. Mike Abraham bred the filly out of Jesstifiable Debt, a lightly-raced 2002 mare.
First Lady Perry (Mr Jess Perry-First Lady Amber) was 2nd under Kevin Carbajal for owner Scott McDaniel & trainer John Allred. Valentin JQM (Separatist-Corona Perfection), the post-time favorite and winner of the Wayne Brasher Memorial earlier in the meet, was 3rd under Mark Jasso for owner Juan Cesar Torres-Casas & trainer Amy Nelson. Followed
by Tommy Diamond (Jesse James Jr-Silver Tongued Chick), Be Quiet (Kiddy Up-Thinking Out Loud), Sizzlin Chick Corona (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Financial Leverage), Senor Frogs (Coronado Cartel-Nellie Soprano), Scooter Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Scooter Prize), Chicksfabulouscorona (Mighty Corona-Fabulous Fly Bye) & Gonnabefirst (Osbaldo-Katie Hawkins).
AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity
CHRISSY LEDOUX
by John Moorehouse
Chrissy Ledoux went into the AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity as the fastest qualifier from the Nov. 18 trials and the betting favorite, and then
raced to victory on Dec. 9 in the $79,658 finals. Carolyn and Ralph Fales home-bred Chrissy
Ledoux, who scored her first victory in stakes company to continue a four-race winning streak. The two-year-old filly, foaled in Arizona, improved her bankroll to $58,644 with the addition of the $39,829 payday from this futurity.
After topping the qualifying ladder in the
trials, Chrissy Ledoux showed plenty of speed in
her first-ever stakes final. The filly broke from the 6-gate, grabbed a 1/2-length lead by the first call and widened the gap to 1 1/2-lengths entering the stretch. She continued to pull away during the final yards, sporting a 2-length margin as she hit the wire. Ralph Fales also trains Chrissy Ledoux, who finished the 350-yard trip in :17.684 and posted a 99 speed index. Luis Valenzuela had the riding assignment.
The Fales bred Chrissy Ledoux out of Jess One Looke, a 2012 mare and winner of the 2014 version of this race.
Thrill My Socks Off (Kiss My Hocks-License To Thrill) finished second for Jose Antonio de Santiago. The Jesus Oliva-Valenzuela trainee had Emilio Tapia in the irons. BH Free Drop Billy (Bodacious Dash- Apollo Snowbound), a 50-1 longshot, surprised in third place. The gelding is owned by Jose Aguilar Mendoza, trained by Eloy Navarro and had Alex Carrillo in
the irons. The remaining order of finish was SB Timetoshine (Turbulent Times-Southern Surfer Girl), Rockin Jo Kool (Kool Wagon-Solid Anita Jo), Good Reason To Run (Good Reason Sa-Secret Separation), Mr Cosmopolitan NR (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Ima Fearless Fire), Tresponte (Duponte-Senorita Tres)

Las Damas Handicap-G2
ASTRANOMICAL
by Tracy Gantz
Trainer Juan Aleman saddled Kiss Thru Fire
and Astranomical in the Nov. 20 Las Damas Handicap-G2 at Los Alamitos, and they finished first and second. Kiss Thru Fire was disqualified for interference and placed seventh, however, making Astranomical the winner.
Kiss Thru Fire broke from the rail under jockey Raul Valenzuela, and Astranomical came out of post four for jockey Armando Cervantez. Toward the end of the 400-yards, Kiss Thru Fire came out and bothered the two horses in between, Elphaba and Cat Daddys Lil Girl. Kiss Thru Fire outfinished her stablemate by a 1/2-length, but was disqualified.
Aleman trains Astranomical for owner M.
C. Stucks. When trained by Stacy Charette-Hill, Astranomical won the 2020 Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge and finished third in the 2020 Oklahoma Derby-G3. Bobby Cox bred Astranomical in Texas from multiple grade 1 winner Quick Moon Sign, who has produced 27 winners from 36 starters, including stakes winners Luminaro and Midnight Sunlight.

with Thompson Racing Inc. The filly has placed in
3 other stakes. Jaime Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez’s homebred Cat Daddys Lil Girl (Big Daddy Cartel- Girlonthego) finished 4th for jockey Noe Garcia Jr. and was moved up to 3rd.
