Arizona Downs Futurity
ONE WILD CARTEL
by Danny Camp
One Wild Cartel won his Aug. 13 trial heat and came into the finals of the Arizona Downs Futurity with the 4th fastest qualifying time. It was a
350-yard event with a total purse worth $60,363. One Wild Cartel loaded into the 10-post. When
the starter pushed the button, the sorrel gelding left on top running into a 12-mph head wind. Jockey Mark Jasso went to work and they received every call.
At the halfway mark, they had the lead by a head and they crossed the line a neck in front to stop the timer in :17.615 to earn a 102 speed index.
The gelded son of Five Bar Cartel also earned the first place check worth $33,200. He now has a lifetime bankroll worth $45,623, and his race record stands at three wins in five career races. His team includes owner Q-Korn Racing and trainer Ernesto Gonzalez. Bred in Louisiana by Wild N Fast Racing LLC, One Wild Card is out of the mare Wild N Fast. She has produced three foals and One Wild Cartel is her best product.
Fastest qualifier Tinee Bubbles (Big Daddy Cartel-Champagne Perry) ran a steady and even race to bank the second place check. Connections include owner Scott McDaniel and trainer John Allred. Kevin Carbajal was in the irons.

to grind to a third place finish. She is owned by Ricardo Ramirez and trained by Amy Nelson. Aaron Belloc was handling the reins.

WILDROSES101
by Danny Camp
Wildroses101 has won two races in a row since trainer Ricardo Saldana has taken over conditioning. The gelding had four wins and four second place finishes in his last nine starts. His latest win was the Curtis/Kiekhefer Memorial Stakes, a 440-yard event held at Arizona Downs on Sept. 5 that had a total purse worth $19,000.
Wildroses101 stepped away from 2-post on the lead. Jockey Martin Osuna took nothing for granted and went to work, keeping his charge in front. At the halfway point, they had a 1/2-length lead. Osuna knew the race was in the bag so they coasted to a win by a neck. They stopped the timer at :21.123 to earn a 120 speed index.
The brown gelding also earned the first place check worth $10,450. That takes his lifetime earnings to $66,469, and his race record stands at five wins out of 21 career starts.
His team includes owner Ferrari Racing Stables and trainer Ricardo Saldana. Wildroses101 was bred in Texas by Bryon Gardner out of the mare Weeds In My Roses. She is a ROM earner and has produced six foals, with Wildroses 101 as her best product.

DR TOOL
by John Moorehouse
With his winning effort in the Bank of America Emerald Downs Championship Challenge, Dr Tool has an appointment for a potential lucrative payday. The five-year-old gelding won the $54,972 event on Aug. 28 at Emerald Downs by a neck, and qualified for the Bank of America Challenge Championship-G1.
Coming into the race at 6-1 odds after qualifying sixth-fastest (:22.540), Dr Tool outran his effort in the trial and made a driving finish to win by a neck. The gelding broke from the No. 5 gate in the middle of the pack, worked his way up to second by the first call, continued to run a close second going into the stretch, then reached the wire first by a neck at the front of a blanket finish.
Edwin Rosales trains Dr Tool, who had Guillermo Suarez in the irons. The 440-yard trip took :22.110 and registered a 98 speed index.
Dr Tool also holds victories in the 2020 versions
of the Weber Downs Derby Challenge and Pocatello Downs Derby Challenge. The $25,289 prize from this event increased the gelding’s total earnings to $167,412.
Andy Caulo bred Dr Tool out of Where Eagles Soar, a lightly-raced 2010 mare.
Super Bowl Sunny Day (PYC Prize Time-Holland Last Star) surprised in second by a nose for owner/
trainer Gilberto Madrigal. Jake Samuels had the riding assignment. CM Once Ina Bluemoon (Ivory James-
Cool Blue Corona) finished third by a neck under James Wooten, Jr. for owner Chris Sutton and trainer Nick Lowe.
The remaining order of finish saw CM Boom Shakalaka (Carters Cartel-Mi Fames A Dandy) in fourth, followed Arizona Favorite (Favorite Cartel- Check Her For Cash), then Alabama Hill (Brookstone Bay-Tombstone Tina) and Lionized (Bodacious Dash- Flyin Lion) in a dead heat for sixth, with Jesstafiably Jess (One Sweet Jess-Fly Thru Time), Fast Movin Freight (Freighttrain B-Real Queen Like It), and Skyywalker (Fly Chisholm Fly-La Jackye) rounding out the field.
