   Elko Derby
LRH MOJO KAT
Lby Danny Camp
RH Mojo Kat ran second in her Aug. 27 trial heat
and came into the Elko Derby finals with the fourth fastest time. She stepped up her game in the finals, a 400-yard stakes race at Elko County Fair that carried a total purse worth $25,000.
The sorrel filly broke on top from the 4-post with Oscar Villa in the saddle. They got the first call and never looked back. Oscar was along for the ride.
At the halfway point, they had a 1/2-length lead on the field and they coasted to a wire-to-wire win by that same margin to stop the clock in :19.820 to earn a 107 speed index.
The daughter of Heza Fast Dash also earned the first place check worth $10,000. That ups her lifetime earnings to $21,775.
Her race record stands at two wins out of 14 career starts. Her team includes owner RR Stables LLC and trainer Sergio Reyes.
She was bred in Louisiana by Jetty & Donald Lemaire out of the mare DRH Jamin Jackie, the dam of five foals. LRH Mojo Kat is her best product.
Fifth fastest qualifier VF Give Me A Prize (First Prize Stanley-Red Temptress) dug down deep after the break to finish second. Connections include owner/trainer Lynn B McNeely. Nakia Teeter was in the irons.
Five Bars Happy (Five Bar Cartel-Jm Onfire) was happy indeed with a third place finish after coming into the event with the eighth fastest qualifying time. The filly is owned/trained by Adrian Zavala. Julian Zavala was handling the reins.
Moonshot (Favorite Cartel-Starlite Delight) was 4th. In a deadheat for 5th were Fire Warning (Heat Warning- Fly Thru Fire) & BNB Lighting McQueen (Coronado Cartel-Optimyze). Followed by Radar (A Revenant- Snow In My Corona), Playin The Game (Game Patriot- Valiant Freda) & Jess Your Corona (Daguerre-Stoli Your Corona). Pendelton was scratched.
Cream City Dash

129 speed index into a 15 mph head wind is
quite impressive, and that’s how Approval Given finished in the Cream City Dash. It was a 220-yard stakes event hosted by Ferndale that carried a $15,000 total purse.
The gelding stepped away from the 3-post with Epifanio Garcia aboard. They were out next to last, but with much hustle and encouragement from Garcia they were a head behind the leader mid race. They battled and finished a nose to the good at the wire, stopping the timer at :11.311 to earn a 129 speed index.
The gelded son of Kiddy Up also earned the first place check worth $8,250. He has now earned a total of $38,674, and his race record stands at three wins out of 18 career starts. Approval Given has won his last two in a row since Epifanio Garcia has taken over the riding assignment.
The gelding is owned by Boardshorts Stables LLC and Emilio Guerro, who is in charge of conditioning. Bred in California by Edward C. Allred, Approval Given is out of the mare Just Checking, a full sister to California Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Geldin Check My Thoughts, winner of the Golden State Derby-G1, Southern California Derby-G1, Spencer L Childers California Breeders’ Championship-RG2, Golden State Juvenile and California Breeders Freshman Stakes. She is also a half-sister to Stanton Handicap winner Bemused and Century Downs 770 Stakes winner Free Thought. Just Checking has produced five foals and Approval Given is her best product.
Approval Given’s second dam is Mistletoe Handicap winner Just Think, who also ran third in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity-G1. She was also a finalist in six graded stakes events. Just Think produced 10 winners from 13 starters.
Three Times A Lady (Tres Seis-Turf Contender) had a terrific break and was able to hold on for second. Connections include owner Etelvina and Isaias Olmos and trainer Felix L. Gonzalez. Pablo Flores was in the saddle.
All Prettied Up (Favorite Cartel-Pretty Jet High) overcame a bumpy start to finish third. She is owned by Ashley T. Garcia and trained by Angela M. Aquino. Oscar Gonzalez was in the irons.
Watch Him (Foose-Watch Her Walk), Miss Fancy Alleia (Im A Fancy PYC-Count Alleia), PV Candy In The Wind (Carters Candy Man-Wind Under My Wings) completed the order of finish. Papa Dan was scratched.
