OQHRA Fall Classic
CHARLIES FURY
Wby John Moorehouse
inning the OQHRA Fall Classic is becoming
a habit for Charlies Fury. The six-year-old gelding emerged victorious in that event for the third straight year, taking first place in this year’s $25,500 running, held Sept. 26 at Will Rogers Downs.
Home-bred by Tom and Kathleen McNally, Charlies Fury collected his 12th win in 30 lifetime starts. The veteran gelding has finished outside the money just five times in his career. He now holds six stakes victories, including this year’s version of the Mr Jet Moore Stakes, back in March at Remington Park.
Charlies Fury made an all-out run for the wire to threepeat in the OQHRA Fall Classic. Breaking from the 6-gate, Charlies Fury led by a nose at the first call and as he entered the stretch, then gained some breathing room during the final yards to have a separation of 1/2-length by the time he reached the finish line.
The even-money favorite, Charlies Fury finished this 400-yard out in :19.925, posting a 93 speed index. Michelle Hurdle trains Charlies Fury and Agustin Silva was in the irons. The $15,138 payday from this race improved his bankroll to $438,864.
The McNallys also home-bred Jess Charlena, a lightly-raced 2008 mare who is the dam of Charlies Fury.
Dangerous Cartel (Coronado Cartel-Dangerous Dawn) was 2nd for owner Marvin Fuentes. The Guillermo Valdivia trainee had Bryan Candanosa up. BP Primetime (Im A Fancy PYC-BP Southern Mariah) and JK Wildcat Red (One Dashing Eagle-Shaky Girl) finished in a dead heat for 3rd. BP Primetime is owned by H E Racing LLC. Buddy Clay is the trainer & James Flores did the riding. JK Wildcat Red is owned by Regina Laymon, trained by Victor Ibarra, and had Eugenio Navarrete, Jr., up. Followed by Presidential Embrace (Brace For Bernal-Presidential Request) was fourth, followed by DF Storm Tales (Wagon Tales- Storm’s Promise TB), Relentless Jessie, and Corona Relentless (Hes Relentless-Coronas Concierge).

win. The four-year-old Appaloosa filly notched the second victory this season in stakes company and the fourth of her career, with her triumphant effort in the $15,712 Sequoyah Stakes, held Sept. 26 at Will Rogers Downs.
Gary Vaughan owns and bred Queen For Cash, who notched her sixth victory in 17 career starts. The $9,480 first-place share of the purse pushed her total earnings into six figures at $102,977. Thus far in 2022, Queen For Cash is the top earner among all Appaloosas.
Riding against a field of five Paints and Appaloosas, Queen For Cash went into the race as the heavy favorite, facing 3-5 odds at post time. She ran away from the field, breaking on top from the inside starting gate and going wire-to-wire. Queen For Cash led by 2-lengths going into the stretch then put any would-be rivals far behind her, sporting a staggering 9-length margin of victory as she crossed the finish line.
Jesus Ruiz trains Queen For Cash and Roman Cruz was in the irons. She finished her 870-yard trip in :45,878, posting a 95 speed index.
Mr Apollo Blue ApHC (Jess Louisiana Blue QH-Allies Apollo), who currently is second in earnings among Appaloosas, finished second in this race as well. Michael Moss owns and trains Mr Apollo Blue. Daniel Torres had the riding assignment.
