“I guess he was just waiting for this big race to put it all together,” said Gladys.
Francisco and Gladys were both able to bring several family members with them to Ruidoso and so had a large group to celebrate the excitement of the big victory.
Francisco said that future plans are to send Instygator to Lone Star Park to try for the Texas Classic Derby-G1.
Instygator became a millionaire in the All American Derby, adding the $390,376 winner’s share to take his total earnings to $1,268,239.
Cox bred Instygator in Texas from his homebred mare Eye Popping, who finished
second in the 2016 All American Congress Maturity and third in the 2015 Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby. Eye Popping has produced six winners from eight starters, including Shott Gun and Maybellina, the latter a multiple stakes winner in Mexico. Shott Gun also qualified for the All American Derby, and he finished fourth.
Monty Arrossa trained second-place Favorite Doc (Favorite Cartel-Look Her Over) and third-place Candy Blood (Apollitical Blood-Ranch Candy). Jose Nicasio rode Favorite Doc, a three-time winner, for owner Juniors Quarter Horses Inc. Jesus Ayala piloted
Candy Blood for Rick Sumner, who bred the gelding, and Dunn Ranch. Candy Blood won the 2020 Holiday Handicap and finished second in the 2021 Los Alamitos Winter Derby-G1 and Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby-G2.
Completing the field were Shott Gun (Valiant Hero-Eye Popping), Empressum (Apollitical Jess-Crazy Down Corona), Apollitical Redflash (Apollitical Jess-Chalala), Mister Illusion (Tempting Dash-Jess An Illusion), Separate Sentence (Seperate Interest-Remember The Cartel), and Flash Riley (Tempting Dash- Essencia). Jettz was scratched.
