PRIZE KISS
by John Moorehouse
The two-year-old colt Prize Kiss picked up his second stakes victory on Sept. 20, capturing the $46,937 John Deere Indiana Juvenile Challenge.
Owned by Pamela Brickley Hamm and Craig Zeneberg, Prize Kiss holds 2 wins in 6 lifetime starts, with both victories coming in stakes company, first winning the Heartland Futurity back in May. He also finished second in the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity. With the $25,819 payday from this triumph, Prize Kiss’ total earnings increased to $141,063.
Purchased at the 2020 Heritage Place Yearling Sale for $38,000, Prize Kiss also earned a spot in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2, taking place Oct. 23 in Albuquerque as part of the Bank of America Challenge Championships card.
Tony Cunningham trains Prize Kiss. After breaking well from the 4-post, Prize Kiss moved into the front by a head at the first call. Jockey Luz Martinez had the colt ahead by 1/2-length going into the stretch, eventually hitting the line three-quarters ahead. Prize Kiss finished the race in :18.250, earning an 81 speed index.
Flag Ranch LLC bred Prize Kiss out of Fast Prize Janie, a stakes-placed 2013 mare.
A heavy underdog at odds of nearly 27-1, All
Star Beach (Escondido Beach-Flashin Dee Dee) finished a surprising second for Sheri Miller. Another Cunningham trainee, the filly had Rolando Pina in the irons.
Dominyuns Runaway (Dominyun-Sabrinas Gold) made an even run for third place. The filly is owned and trained by Ollie Matthews. Jose Beltran did the riding.
The remaining order of finish was Chequer Out (Dominyun-Check N Fetch), Separate Incident (Seperate Interest-Running Bac), Immeasurable Joy (Wagon Tales-Shinnie), Illegal ID (Coronado Cartel- Illegal Feature), Paint Your Legacy (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Miss Inseprable) and Question The Eagle (Hes Relentless-Jefris Question).

JESS OVER YONDER
by John Moorehouse
Jess Over Yonder picked up her third consecutive victory on Sept. 20 at Indiana Grand, taking the $22,956 Q-Racing Video Indiana Distaff Challenge.
A 3-year-old filly home-bred by JF Racing Stables LLC, Jess Over Yonder has come into her own after losing her first six starts, although she qualified to and finished fourth in the Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby on June 28. She started her win streak and broke her maiden on July 13 and then scored in an allowance at Indiana Grand. She entered this race at 2-1 odds and ran at or near the front for all 400 yards.
Breaking 2nd from the 2-gate, Jess Over Yonder had a 1/2 length lead at the 1st call and into the stretch, holding on for a neck win. Tim Eggleston trains the filly, who clocked in at :20.410 for an 82 speed index over the sloppy/sealed track. Natasha Fritz drew the riding assignment and has ridden Jess Over Yonder in all 7 of her starts as a sophomore, all at Indiana Grand.
With the win, Jess Over Yonder secured a berth in the Q-Racing Video Distaff Challenge Championship-G1, taking place Oct. 23 in Albuquerque with an estimated $100,000 payday.
JF Racing Stables also owns Jess Over Yonder’s dam, Wyld Bleu Yonder, a lightly-raced 2013 mare. Wyld Bleu Yonder still amassed a 6-figure bankroll, bolstered by a 2nd-place finish in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG2.
Bennett Racing Stable owns One Coldhearted Diva (One Fabulous Eagle-Whata Chilled Cat), who made a late surge to finish second. Jessica Vazquez is the trainer and Giovani Vazquez-Gomez did the riding. Shaw Island Senator (Louisiana Senator-Sea Island Dancer), the post-time favorite at just under even-money odds, placed third for Wootan Racing. The Randy Smith trainee had Juan Marquez in the irons.
Hold On Jessie (Mr Jess Perry-Hold Me Now) and To Kiss A Diva (Kiss My Hocks-Shez So Rare) completed the field.
Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity
FIRST COLD WAVE
by John Moorehouse
First Cold Wave entered the $51,622 Ontario
Sires Stakes Futurity as the fastest qualifier and overwhelming favorite. Then the rookie gelding over-
whelmed the field in the Sept. 15 finals at Ajax Downs. First Cold Wave was no stranger to stakes compe-
tition, finishing second in the Ontario Bred Futurity at Ajax back in August. This time, the gelding ran away with victory, breaking on top from the number three gate and leading at every call of the 330-yards. Jockey Brian Bell brought First Cold Wave across the finish line sporting a 1 1/2-length advantage.
Jason Pascoe trains First Cold Wave, who finished the futurity in :17.146 and posted an 88 speed index. That wasn’t quite as quick as the :17.014 time he tal- lied in the futurity trials to top the qualifying ladder.
Robert Bailey home-bred First Cold Wave, who now holds three wins in five career starts. The $20,650 top prize from this race more than doubled the geld- ing’s prior earnings to a new total of $40,929.
Bailey bred First Cold Wave out of Cassies Carver, a 2009 mare who won three of 14 starts as a competi- tor before she became a broodmare. She has produced one winner from three starters.
Night Leader (El Night Shift-Bajillion) defeated First Cold Wave in the Ontario Bred Futurity, but fin- ished 2nd in this stakes rematch. Scott Reid and John Wilson own the gelding, who is trained by Reid and had Carly Furlonger aboard. Pascoe trained five of the eight horses in the field, including Keepr Of The Stars (Star Fire Dash-Dazzlin Lady), who was in third place for Belinda Taggart. Helen Vanek did the riding.
Kold Kinda Star (Cold Hard Dash-Kool Kinda Star), Magic Flare (Maryland Magic-Fire Within), Jezzabella (Caviar And Corona-Flirt With The Boyz), Blazin Magician and SW Snowmagicallykool (Maryland Magic-Gotta Blazin Body) com-
pleted the order of finish. Magic Diamond and Runawaylightsncaviar both scratched.
