                 QROOI Sprint Series 3
MARYLAND MAGIC
by Tracy Gantz
Jason Pascoe trained three entrants in the 250 yard $16,416 QROOI Sprint Series #3 Stakes at Ajax Downs on Sept. 8 for owner Milena Kwiecien. The collaboration resulted in a win with Maryland Magic and a third with Carneros.
Jess A Sweet Suprize, winner of the first two Sprint Series Stakes at Ajax this year, went off as the favorite. Maryland Magic was the 3-1 third choice and the most well backed of the Kwiecien/Pascoe trio. With Ismael Mosqueira aboard, Maryland Magic battled with Jess A Sweet Suprize for the lead and reached the wire 3/4-length in front, stopping the timer in :13.044 for a 105 speed index.
Stephen M. Harris bred Maryland Magic in Maryland, and the horse initially ran for his breeder in Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. Maryland Magic began racing for Kwiecien at Ajax Downs in mid-2017 and has scored all 12 of his lifetime wins at the Canadian track. He has placed in five stakes.
Harris bred Maryland Magic out of winner Purley Un Social. The mare has produced three win- ners from five starters.
Craig Spada owns and trains Jess A Sweet Suprize (Sweet First Down-Jess Curl My Prize), who ran second under jockey Cory Spataro. In addition to the two Sprint Stakes wins this year, the five-year- old mare finished second in the 2020 QROOI Sprint Series #1 Stakes.
Ricardo Moreno rode Carneros (Prospect To The Top-Cakebread And Thou) to third for Pascoe and Kwiecien. Last year Carneros won the QROOI Sprint Series #1 Stakes, and the six-year-old gelding has placed in six other stakes during his career.
Completing the field were Night
Fishn (Sugarman Perry-Fisher Lines), Chicksdigmymoneybags (Chicks Regard-Aaneta), Silken Siri (Desirio-Silken Memories), and Favorite Pearl (Favorite Cartel-Super Perla Negra)
Lucille Rowe Derby
BUX STREAKIN
by John Moorehouse
Adisqualification boosted Bux Streakin, a 26-1 longshot, to his first stakes win on Aug. 27 in the $50,945 Lucille Rowe Derby at Arapahoe Park.
Uriel Delgado trains Bux Streakin, who broke well from the 4 gate and was running a close 2nd at the 1st call. The gelding slipped to 3rd going into the stretch, then finished a neck shy of Jess Golondrina at the wire. However, Jess Golondrina impeded Bux Streakin near the wire, and was disqualified from 1st place to 5th for interference. Jonathan Dominguez was aboard as Bux Streakin finished the 350 yards in :18.014, logging an 84 speed index while benefiting from a 5 mph tailwind.
Rivera Quarter Horse Racing owns and bred
Bux Streakin, a 3-year-old gelding who actually was winless in 4 prior career starts. He finished 4th in his Aug. 13 Lucille Rowe Derby trial and previously made unsuccessful bids to qualify for the 2020 Ruidoso Futurity and June’s running of the Altoona Derby at Prairie Meadows. This $20,378 payday exponentially increased his bankroll to a new total of $20,810.
Rivera Quarter Horse Racing also owns TLM Streakin Joy, the dam of Bux Streakin. Her brood includes Streakan James Jr, who finished third in the Cherry Creek Futurity earlier this year.
Flirt With A Hottie (Capo De Capi-Make
Money Anywhere) was 2nd under James Flores
for owner Jean Chavers & trainer Howie Chavers. Another Delgado trainee, This Parties Hoppin (Five Bar Cartel-Bsimjumpn) was 3rd for Vences Racing under rider Adrian Morales. Finally Excited (Jumpn Chic-Letsbeexcited) hit the line in 4th, followed by Jess Golondrina (Jess Cuervo-BP First Down Policy), Apollitical Splash (Apollitical Blood-La Burrita Splash), Nobadtest (Jess Valentine-Missile Shot Missy), Black Hawk 777 (Volcom-Hawk All The Way), Coronasgotheart (King Of Heart-Raise Ur Corona) & Twos Two (First Prize Stone-Im Hayley Two).
Dolls Prodigy Stakes
JESS UN SIES MAS
by John Moorehouse
For Jess Un Sies Mas, winning the Dolls Prodigy Stakes was so nice that he won it twice, in 2020 and again this year. The 5-year-old gelding repeated
in his win, taking first place in the 2021 version of the event by 3/4-length on Sept. 2 at Arapahoe Park. This year’s running had a $17,400 purse.
As the defending champion, Jess Un Sies Mas was the heavy favorite, going off at post time at 3-5 odds. The gelding pulled away late to secure his repeat win, though he led at every call of the 350 yards. He broke on top from the No. 3 gate and led by a head at both the first call and going into the stretch. Jess Un Sies Mas widened the gap during the final yards, completing his trip in :17.687 for a 93 speed index with a slight 3 mph tailwind.
Jess Un Sies Mas holds eight career wins in 15 starts now for owner/breeder Hugo Barron-Sierra, and half of those victories have come in stakes company. In addition to the pair of Dolls Prodigy wins, the gelding also captured a pair of derby wins at Arapahoe during his 2019 campaign. The $10,440 winner’s prize from this race improved his total earnings to $92,080.
Jose Barron trains Jess Un Sies Mas, whose dam, Seis Star Glitter, finished in the money in a pair of graded stakes at Arapahoe during her own racing career. Barron-Sierra owns Seis Star Glitter as well.
Intocable Cartel (Coronado Cartel-Tahiti Wave) made a steady run for second place. The gelding
is owned and trained by Haley Hobbs, and had Fernando Fonseca-Sota in the irons.
Moshi Yoshi (Pool-Mairis Money Maker) took third place by a neck for Dana Yoshida-Orozco. The Alexander Orozco trainee had Jose Lopez aboard.
Tainted Halo (Jess Being Valiant-Make Money Zoomin) was fourth, and Jessinourbodgit (Jess Valentine-Barelyinyourbodgit TB) and Tykoon (First Prize Stanley-Raise Ur Corona) completed the order of finish.
