Donovan Rossa surprised in the $55,520
SLM Big Daddy Stakes-G3, held March 6 at Remington Park. The 4-year-old gelding won the event as a 38-1 longshot, scoring his first-ever stakes victory.
Trained by Dee Keener, O Donovan Rossa got away from the 9-post clean and made a late surge to hit the wire first by a 1/2-length. Jesus Salazar drew the riding assignment as O Donovan Rossa completed the 550 yards in :26.438, posting a 112 speed index.
Loyd J. Yother and J. Garvan Kelly own O Donovan Rossa, who reached the winner’s circle for the fourth time in 20 lifetime starts. The $34,476 first-place prize pushed the gelding’s total earnings into six figures at $103,030.
O Donovan Rossa had been plagued by issues in recent races, going seven straight starts without a clean trip. His last clean race was a third-place run in last year’s running of the Jack Brooks Stakes at Remington.
Kelly also owns O Donovan Rossa’s dam, Shanachee, a 2009 mare with a pair of stakes wins herself. She has produced 10 winners from 14 starters.
Shockinglyfamous (One Famous Eagle- Shocktime TB) was second under James Flores for trainer Kasey Willis, who co-owns the colt with Stone Chase Stables, LLC. Midday News (FDD Dynasty-Summer Love Song) and jockey Jose Alvarez placed third for owners Linda Joiner, Pat Smith, Izora Southway, Holly King and Kelly Allen. Michael Joiner trains the gelding.

eller Ima Eagle, owned by Guerras Racing Stables
and trained by Troy Carter, turned the tables on Reef Ridge in the $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile Stakes at Remington Park on March 19.
In their trial for the Oklahoma Futurity-G2, Teller Ima Eagle ran second to Reef Ridge. It was the first start for them both, and their times did not qualify them to the Futurity final. Instead, Reef Ridge was the second-fastest qualifier and Teller Ima Eagle the fifth-fastest for the Juvenile.
The Juvenile again was between Teller Ima Eagle and Reef Ridge. Teller Ima Eagle, ridden by Cody Wainscott, got away on top, and this time he reversed the order of finish, scoring by 3/4-lengths and stopping the timer in :15.558 for 300 yards.
Juan Medina bred Teller Ima Eagle in Texas from his homebred mare Teller Baja, winner
of the 2016 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG2. He had purchased Baja Jazz, the second dam, for $13,000 at the 2007 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, and she won the 2008 Longhorn Futurity-G1. Teller Baja has produced one other starter, winner Jam Candy.
Trey Wood trains Reef Ridge (Woodbridge-
Fast Copy Miss) and third-place A Revenant Lady
(A Revenant-Famous Cartel Lady). Gene and Tod Bradley own Reef Ridge, who was ridden by Tanner Thedford. Johnny Trotter bred and owns A Revenant Lady, who ran second in her Futurity trial. Ricky Ramirez rode A Revenant Lady in both races.
