Despite just missing by a neck in his trial heat on March 13, Ponte Trucha was dismissed at odds of 22-1 in the $324,288
Louisiana Downs Futurity-G2 at Louisiana Downs on April 3.
The bay gelded son of Duponte evidently benefitted greatly from the initial outing of his career as he came roaring back to upset a competitive field of juveniles over 300 yards in the final.
Ridden by Heriberto Aguilar-Orozco, Ponte Trucha popped out of the 8-gate and led from the start.
He dueled throughout with Beaus First Dynasty before edging clear of that rival in the late stages of the race to score by 3/4-length at the finish.
In breaking his maiden and graduating to the ranks of stakes winners, Ponte Trucha stopped the timer in :15.590 (hand-timed), earning a 92 speed index.
