NM Classic Sophomore Stakes
EBW PISTOL PETE
by Tracy Gantz
EBW Pistol Pete is the third generation of runners from his bloodline for owners/breeders Ernie and Brenda Wood. He did the family proud when he
captured his first stakes win in the $40,000 New Mexico Classic Sophomore Stakes at Zia Park on Oct. 29.
With jockey Christian Ramos aboard, he led at every call enroute, but he had to battle every step of the 400 yards with horses to both his inside and outside pushing him. EBW Pistol Pete remained ahead all the way to the wire, eking out the victory by just a nose and stopping the timer in :19.870, for an 88 speed index.
