Sweet Tess snagged another stakes victory in
the $25,000 Justanold Love Handicap at Los Alamitos on Nov. 5
After Run By Your Cartel was scratched at the gate, Sweet Tess and jockey Eduardo Nicasio had the outside post position. Sweet Tess broke well, but needed to make up some ground to get to the wire first, which she did to score by a neck. She stopped the timer in :17.784 for 350 yards, posting an 88 speed index. The $13,750 winner’s share of the purse raised her total earnings to $234,485.
Patricia Visscher has trained for owners/breeders Edward and Theresa DeNike for years and she trains Sweet Tess. The bay filly has spent her entire career
in Southern California at Los Alamitos. There she captured the Los Alamitos Oaks-G3 earlier this year, and she came close in three subsequent races. The filly broke her maiden in her second start last year, and she finished second in this year’s La Pacifica Handicap.
The DeNikes bred and raced 2012 La Pacifica Handicap winner Separate Thoughts, the dam of Sweet Tess, and Visscher trained her. Separate Thoughts has produced three winners from four starters. The second dam, A Lil Alimony TB, earned $162,504 while racing in Northern California during her racing career.
Hot Girl Summer B (Jess Louisiana Blue- Greystone Girl) placed second under jockey Oscar Peinado for owner Highland Park Racing Partners and trainer Havid Carnez.
Mperativ (Apollitical Jess-Miss Aguilar) finished third under jockey Jose Nicasio for owner Jeffrey Scott Brooks and trainer Christopher O’Dell.
Completing the field were She Goes Up (Seperate Interest-Up For It), Majority Interest (Seperate Interest-Remember Me Rose), Need A Favor (Favorite Cartel-Need You Now), and The Streakin Dream (FDD Dynasty-The Streakin Clean). Run By Your Cartel was scratched.
Ah Sigh Stakes
HES CHICKLESS

Hes Chickless captured his first stakes win wire- to-wire in the $30,000 Ah Sigh Stakes at Los Alamitos on Oct. 30.
Hes Chickless blasted out of the gate on top for jockey Juan Leon. He dominated throughout the 350 yards, scoring by a 1-length lead, stopping the timer in :17.818, posting an 87 speed index. The $16,500 winner’s share of the purse boosted his earnings to $52,540.
John Cooper trains Hes Chickless for Jeryl Hartley. Except for the PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity-G2, where Hes Chickless was bumped and finished unplaced, the colt has been a model of consistency. He won his first two races, ran second in the Fred Scane Handicap, and then won his PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity trial as the second-fastest qualifier.
After Ronald Hartley died in January 2020, his wife, Jeryl, and her daughter, Dana Collum, have kept the racing stable going. The Hartleys bred
Hes Chickless in California from multiple graded stakes-placed Chickitita. The mare has produced five winners from eight starters, including stakes winners Hard Headed Chick and Chickititas Favorite. It is the family of World Champion Super Sound Charge.
Adrian Loza piloted AJ Run For Cash (Apollitical Jess-Shyann Cash) to second for owner Boardshorts Stables LLC and trainer Juan Aleman. AJ Run For Cash won the Firecracker Futurity and ran second in the Nuther Brother Handicap.
George and Ruben Villalobos’ homebred Required First (First Down Dash-No Tools Required) ran third under jockey Erasmo Gasca for trainer Jose Flores. Required First finished second in the Governor’s Cup Futurity-G1.
Rounding out the field were Secret Success (Henoshersecret-Deep Creek Bobbie), Up For Everything (Favorite Cartel-Up For It), Price Fixer (Favorite Cartel-Chickafirst), and Space Flight (Fly Thru The Fire-In Another World).
Town Policy Stakes
DASHA DYNASTY

Dasha Dynasty snagged his first stakes win of his career in the $25,000 Town Policy Stakes at Los Alamitos on Nov. 5.
Dasha Dynasty came out of the gate just a tad slow after the horse to his inside was restless. But the colt made up for it by powering home late and scoring by 3/4-length for jockey Jesus Ayala in :19.806 for 400 yards, earning a 91 speed index. The $13,750 winner’s share of the purse raised his earnings to $87,247.
Jose Flores trains Dasha Dynasty, who finished third in last year’s Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge and third in this year’s Golden State Derby-G2.
He races for the partnership of Robyn Gordon, Juan Humberto Moya, and S-Quarter K LLC.
S-Quarter K LLC bred Sweet Dasha Fire in Washington from graded stakes-winning Dasha Freda. The mare has produced 10 winners from 12 starters, five of them stakes winners and one stakes-placed.
Dasha Freda has produced back-to-back winners of the Town Policy Stakes at Los Alamitos: Just A Dasha Hero in 2021 and Dasha Dynasty in 2022.
Dr. Ed Allred’s homebred Up The Ladder (Kiddy Up-Oh La Princess) ran second under jockey Armando Cervantes for trainer Scott Willoughby. The gelding won the 2021 Dream A Secret Handicap and Holiday Handicap. Ruben Lozano rode Stuck In Probate (Favorite Cartel-Fyrefly Jo)
to third for trainer Valentin Zamudio and owner Vic3tory LLC. Followed by Da Special One (Two Corona Special-Da One), Amadeus MV (Power Jam TB-Queen Of Appeals), Press Is My Hero (Valiant Hero-Preslee The First), in a deadheat fo 7th were Apollitical J Streak (Apollitical Jess-Streak Of Sixes) & Conant Valley (One Famous Eagle-Cluster Of Stars TB), then Apolitical Eye Opener (Apollitical Jess- Mongoose Jet Eye), and Insider Information (Favorite Cartel-Katie Katella).
