            GALLBLADDER PATHOLOGY
              CHOLELITHIASIS
▪ Sonographically, a gallstone appears as a mobile, echogenic structure within the gallbladder that produces an acoustic shadowing.
– A gallbladder that is filled completely with gallstones may exhibit the wall-echo-shadow (WES sign). Only the gallbladder wall and shadowing from the gallbladder fossa are observable.
– Tiny folds in the cystic duct, spiral valves of Heister, can also produce a posterior shadow. Changing the patient’s position often resolves this dilemma.
