GALLBLADDER PATHOLOGY
CHOLELITHIASIS
• Gallstones have been found in children, newborns, and fetuses.
• Pediatric patients who have hemolytic anemia, such as sickle cell, and those with Crohn disease have a higher risk for developing gallstones.
• Patients may be asymptomatic. • Biliary colic is often present.
• Other findings include abdominal pain after fatty meals, epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, and pain that radiates to the shoulders.
