           ACUTE CHOLECYSTITIS
                (SEQUELA)
▪ Chronic cholecystitis results from intermittent obstruction of the cystic duct by gallstones.
▪ Gangrenous cholecystitis – gallbladder becomes necrotic and develops abscesses within its walls.
▪ Bacterial invasion of the gallbladder wall describes emphysematous cholecystitis.
▪ Cholecystitis and its complications can lead to perforation of the gallbladder. When this
happens a patients death risk increases from peritonitis.
▪ Cholecystectomy is performed to relieve symptoms.
