The Work of Christmas Personal Reflection
Jesus is God’s anointed come to set us free.
What is more freeing than Jesus forgiving us?
We start so many “fires” in our lives by, as
Paul would say, doing the things we shouldn’t
do and not doing the things we should do. Jesus
loves us any way, which means those fires are
extinguished in Jesus’ eyes. Peter, one of
Jesus’ own disciples, is constantly putting his
foot in his mouth, to the point he denies Jesus.
This story from John is often called “Jesus
Reinstates Peter” and tells of Jesus giving
Peter three chances to say how much he loves
Jesus which negates the three times Peter
denied Jesus.

Jesus also extinguishes the rumors and lies
that the Pharisees try to spread about him.
“Jesus is Satan, but not Satan. Satan did more
bad than good” Cole Troutman reminded us
when thinking about the story of Jesus casting
out a demonic in Matthew 12:22. The
Pharisees accuse Jesus of being Beelzebul, but
Jesus refutes the claim.
What “fires” do you hope Jesus extinguishes,
