At Christmas, we see Jesus as a
sweet innocent baby, God’s Son,
Immanuel who according to a favorite
Carol, doesn’t even cry. And Isaiah’s
prophecy seems to confirm this image,
but the Confirmation students clearly
remember one of Pastor Erin’s
sermons about Jesus being mean to
the Syrophoenician woman and of
Jesus overturning the tables in the
Temple. These stories show Jesus in

a different light. Could this be part of
the justice that Jesus came to
establish on earth mentioned in verse
4 of the Isaiah verse? Did the
Syrophoenician woman remind Jesus
“a
she
was
that
bruised reed” that is

verse causing Jesus to change his
mind?
