WHY THIS GIFT MATTERS!

The world produces more than enough food for every person, but the number of people
experiencing hunger is growing - 1 in 8 people is hungry.
Ending hunger isn’t just about food. It’s about access, justice, caring for creation and

for each other.
It’s about hope for the world we want to live in.
ELCA World Hunger has a decades-long record of effectively partnering with trusted
agencies in the United States and 50 other countries to help break the cycle of hunger
and poverty.
One cow produces as many as 5 gallons of milk each day, enough for a family and some
to sell at the market. Goat’s milk keeps families healthy and can be sold as yogurt and
cheese. A litter of pigs is like money in the bank! Bees yield honey and sales of wax and
soaps can help a family pay for school or medicine. A rooster and chicks soon produce
fresh eggs and additional poultry to sell.
