WHY THIS GIFT MATTERS!

Unemployment and underemployment are
persistent barriers for youth living in

occupied territories in the Middle East.
Since 1949, the Lutheran World Federation’s
Vocational Training Program has supported
Palestinian youth.
Nearly 1000 students are served annually
through one-year and two-year
apprenticeship training and short course
programs leading to careers in auto
mechanics, graphic design, carpentry,
computer programming and the development
of small businesses. A priority is preparing
young women for vocations in technology
and trades and for growing their own small
businesses.

Income from olives harvested each year from
an 800-tree grove on the Mount of Olives
assists with vocational training fees. After
being pressed and bottled locally, olive oil
was shipped directly from Jerusalem to
Lincoln for the 2022 Gifts of Hope Market.
