14,300 people (2013) around the globe.
In India, Bayer MaterialScience operates in three Business Units:
Polycarbonates, Polyurethanes and Coatings, Adhesives and Specialties. It is
headquartered in Thane, near Mumbai and has production facilities in Greater
       Noida, Ankleshwar and Cuddalore.
The Color Competence and Design Center (CCDC) at Greater Noida is designed
as a one-stop solution for customers offering several capabilities under one roof:
a color competence center, including a color interaction room; flexible small-scale
production and sampling, and pilot production; application development along the
value chain and customer management; and customized solutions in
polycarbonate applications for the resin market. As part of the global network,
experienced specialists enhance the support given to customers' projects by
       tailored technical advice and consultancy.
Makrolon® is the best-known brand within the Polycarbonates portfolio. It is an
amorphous, thermoplastic molding compound, noted for its high light
transmission, high heat resistance, high toughness, high creep modulus, high
dimensional stability and good electrical insulation properties. Glass fiber
reinforced Makrolon® has a particularly high rigidity, coupled with very good
dimensional stability. The production plants for Makrolon® have been certificated
to DIN ISO by competent certification companies.
Other brands include the high-heat resistant Apec® and various Makrolon®
based blends such as Bayblend® and Makroblend®.
Apec® is the brand name used for copolycarbonates that constitute a further
development of the Makrolon® polycarbonate produced by Bayer
MaterialScience. With its unique combination of high heat resistance, toughness,
transparency, light stability and flowability, Apec® is unlike any other engineering
thermoplastic. The product line based on this new polycarbonate technology
