The In-house R&D and innovation has marked the rise of Gharda Chemicals Ltd.
(GCL) from a small unit in 1964 to a successful and reputed company having annual
turnover around 800 crores ( 200 million USD). Through strategic alliances and
branch offices, GCL has built a network across the globe in Europe, USA, Latin
America, Asia pacific, Africa and Australia. All this has been made possible by the
vision and unswerving dedication and commitment of Dr. K. H. Gharda, Founder -
Chairman & Managing Director, Gharda Chemicals Limited. In addition GCL has a
strong competitive international presence with 60% of its earnings coming from
exports.
The company has won several National & international awards for technical
innovation, energy conservation and product development in the chemical industry
and has many firsts in the field of polymers, pigments, dyestuffs, pesticides, and
veterinary drugs.
GCL has manufacturing units at Dombivli, Lote Parshuram ( both in Maharashtra
state), Ankleshwar and Panoli ( both in Gujarat state). Apart from this, Dr K. H.
Gharda has set up an advanced research facility at Dombivli called Gharda Institute
of Science and Technology ( GIST ), which is a multi-disciplinary research center of
excellence in the country.
Gharda Polymers Ltd had launched polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and was one of
just three suppliers worldwide for this engineering thermoplastic. It had also made
and marketed polyether sulfone, polysuper sulfone, polyphenylene sulfone, and
polysulfone however this business is sold to Solvay, USA.
Gharda Chemicals is now launching two new Super Engineering Thermoplastics
with in-house developed technology, viz. G-PAEK™ (Gharda Polyarylether
Ketone) and G-PAEN™ (Gharda Polyarylether Nitrile). The commercial production
of G-PAEK™ is slated to commence from March/April 2009, while the commercial
production of G-PAEN™ has already commenced.
Gharda Chemicals is also introducing m-Aramid and Liquid Crystal Polymers
(LCP). m-Aramid, a fire-resistant polymer used in fire fighting clothing, air craft body
& in various other applications. After developing in the laboratory GCL is now taking
this polymer at pilot plant scale. LCP, an aromatic liquid crystalline polyester, is also
at pilot plant level.
Gharda Chemicals has also established a High Performance Pigment (HPP)
Division in year 2003. HPP aims at developing a single point supply of High
Performance pigments of various chemical classes.
