               The renal tubule that starts at the renal corpuscle is highly twisted, or tortuous,
               and is therefore called the proximal convoluted tubule. Initially, this tubule is

               located in the cortex but then descends into the medulla to become continuous
               with another tubule, the loop of Henle. The loop of Henle consists of several
               parts:  a  thick  descending  portion  of  the  proximal  convoluted  tubule,  a  thin
