                                                     ABSTRACT

In this study, cobalt hydroxide nanoparticles are electrodeposited onto
high surface area graphite felt (GF), in the presence of several additives,
and has been proposed as a positive electrode for supercapacitor

applications. Three films were prepared (A1, A2 and A3) from different
deposition baths (additive-free, chlorate- or iodate-containing baths,
respectively). The various films were characterized employing SEM, EDX,

XPS, XRD and contact angle measurements. Film A3 (prepared in the
presence of iodate) showed the best performance as a positive electrode in
supercapacitor applications as evident from the relevant electrochemical

measurements. Additionally, this film is the best among the investigated
                                                                          -1
films in terms of specific capacitance (567.6 F g at current density 5
                            2
mA/cm ) which is ratentiend at 82% at high current density of
30 mA/cm indicating the excellent rate capability of this film. The
                               2
observed high performance could be attributed to the simultaneous
                                       -
generation of OH with high rate during iodate reduction enabling better
distribution of Co(OH)2 throughout the GF matrix.
