                                                     ABSTRACT

                    The  negative  impact  of  various  nano-metal  oxides  on  the  process  of
                    anaerobic  digestion  was  investigated  over  the  years.  However,
                    little attention focused on metal ferrites. In this document the influence of
                    the Zn ferrite nanoparticles (NPs) on the process of anaerobic digestion
                    was  studied.  For  that  objective  Zn  ferrite  NPs  were  synthesized  and
                    characterized  with  Scanning  Electron  Microscopy(SEM),  X-ray
                    Diffraction(XRD),  Energy-dispersive  X-ray  spectroscopy(EDX)  and
                    Transmission  Electron  Microscopy(TEM).  These  NPs  were  added
                    individually to three lab-scale biogas reactors and their effect on biogas

                    production  was  investigated.  These  effects  were  compared  to  blank
                    reactors.  The  gases  continuously  accumulating  in  the  reactors  were
                    analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively on a daily basis. Noticing the
                    improvement in biogas production compared to control reactors assured
                    that metal ferrites enhance the process of anaerobic digestion.
