                                                     ABSTRACT

Oil used for car engines is one of the most popular sources for the volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) during the combustion process1. Volatile organic compounds have
a huge variety of hazards that effects the human's life through many different ways one
of the most popular ways is by inhaling the VOCs2.
Inside the lung which could cause a short and long
effects, therefore it is so important to detect the
products produced from the combustion process in
the car engine. In this work, the pure oil before the
combustion process and the oil after the
combustion process was analyzed by IR, UV-VIS
                    and GC-MS to determine VOCs.

The analysis of the new oil sample shows that only basic compounds were appeared
(Benzene, Toluene, ethyl benzene and ethanol) in new car oil. However, the used one
showed 9 compounds with an increase in the intensity (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene,
                    styrene, 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene, O-Cymene, Butylbenzene, 1,2,4-Trichlorobenzene and
Naphthalene). Samples shows that there is a new appearance for the volatile organic
compounds moreover this indicates that there is a decomposition of chemical
compounds inside the car machine, the analysis indicated (Benzene, (RT 3.28) Toluene,
                    (RT 4.38) Ethylbenzene, (RT 6.13) Styrene, (RT 6.96) 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene, (RT 7.75) O-
                    Cymene, (RT 8.65) Butylbenzene, (9.20) 1,2,4-Trichlorobenzene, (RT 11.88) and
Naphthalene, (RT 12.61). As shown in Fig.1. This work represents an estimation for
volatile organic compounds of used oil car affecting the passengers. The results
demonstrated 9 of volatile organic compounds, these compounds are related to specific
diseases: Benzene: irregular heartbeat, Tremors, unconsciousness and cancer. Toluene:
sleepiness, fatigue, headaches, and nausea. Ethylbenzene: throat irritation, chest
constriction, eyes irritation and dizziness. Styrene: balance problems, concentration
problems, tiredness and carcinogen. 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene: tense, headaches, tired,
nervous, and affects blood cells. O-Cymene: skin irritation. Butylbenzene: skin irritation,
eye irritation, respiratory irritation, drowsiness and dizziness. 1,2,4-Trichlorobenzene:
skin irritation. Naphthalene: eye irritation, skin irritation, respiratory tract irritation and
blood abnormalities. These compounds consist in the gasoline dissociation. As a result,
dissociation of the fuel inside the engine, it producesvolatile organic compounds, which
can harm the passengers inside the vehicle by air-conditioning inside the car.
