About the author
Dr Derek Bland lives in Brisbane, Australia, with his wife, Linda, and a couple of goldfish.
They have a small backyard with lots of visiting birds, lizards and possums. Derek taught
art in secondary schools and has written and illustrated a number of stories and poems
for children. Some of the stories were written for his children who now tell them to their
own children. You can see some of his work at his website, www.leakythoughts.com
Derek now lectures in pre-service teacher education at a university in Brisbane. He is the
editor of “Imagination for Inclusion: Diverse contexts of educational practice” (published
by Routledge, 2016). Through his teaching and research, Derek has met many clever
young people (and some older ones) who have overcome difficult problems through
imagination and creative-thinking.
