By upgrading their tests on FTDNA to the BigY 700, my brother and John Shroyer have added a new branch to the Y Haplogroup tree as of September, 2020. They now share haplogroup R-FGC78017 all to themselves. This new haplogroup is an off shoot of R-A885, closely associated with R-M259 and R-M222. Since Peter O'Brien came from County Meath it makes it highly likely that this was the point of migration for our Bryan surname family.
I hope that the other Bryan Project members listed on the chart on the opposite page will also upgrade their tests.
NOT A MATCH!
The members of the Bryan Project on Family Tree DNA who descend from the
Morgan Bryan who married Martha Strode are Haplogroup R-DC191 (Kit # 78034 and 464903 on FTDNA). One of these descendants, David (Randy) Bryan, discusses documentary evidence which confirms their YDNA findings. The discussions can be found on genealogy.com.

Edward Bryan on FTDNA's Bryan Project (kit #905933) is a direct descendant of
William Bryan, Sr. This haplogroup is E-PH3735. The "E" haplogroup represents the last major direct migration from Africa and is very distinct from the R1b group.
What is clear is that the YDNA of these three Bryan families (Morgan Bryan, William Bryan, Sr. and Thomas Bryan/ Francis Bryan) is not the same.
While our Bryan YDNA is not closely related to the Morgan Bryan YDNA, both are subgroups of haplogroup R1b. We had a common ancestor, most likely in the IRON AGE! Most people of European descent share common ancestry within 1,000 years....and it is said that everyone is a 16th cousin to everyone else of European origin....and probably a 50th cousin to everyone else in the world!
BUT LET US RETURN TO THE MORE IMMEDIATE PRESENT OF THE 1700'S!
