SOIL GROUTING
1. GENERAL
1.1 SCOPE OF WORK
Soil grouting shall be performed generally as depicted on the plans, outlined in these specifications,
and as directed by the engineer. Changes may be called for in both the exact layout and number of
grout holes as conditions encountered during the work are evaluated. The purpose of the work is to
densify compressible soil within the specified work area.
1.2 ACCESS AND SITE CONDITIONS
The contractor shall visit the site and independently verify any access- or work-related restrictions.
The type and condition of the soil to be improved is delineated in the geotechnical report of
AMEC Foster-Wheeler, dated December 30, 2015.
1.3 TREATMENT AREA AND DEPTH
The soils shall be grouted at the locations and to the depths outlined in the. The grout hole
locations and depths are based on the available geotechnical and structural exploration data;
however, all grouting locations have not been explored in detail. The precise limits of the area to
be grouted and the exact location and required depth of the individual grout holes are not
positively known but will be revealed as the work progresses. The engineer at their discretion may
move the location of the proposed holes, change the proposed depths to be grouted, add new holes,
or eliminate some of the proposed holes shown on the plans.
1.4 SUBSURFACE PIPES AND UTILITIES
The location of existing underground utilities is indicated on the plans or will be marked on the
surface before the work. Where available, the contractor shall verify utility locations before drilling
by contacting Blue Stake (811). For utilities not covered by this service, the owner shall be
responsible for identifying utility locations. The contractor shall protect identified utilities and
repair at no cost to the owner any utilities that are damaged if they are located within 2 ft of the
identified location. The con- tractor is not responsible for damage to utilities that are not identified
or that are located more than 2 ft distant from the identified location.
The contractor shall access existing sewer or drain lines both upstream and downstream of the area
to be grouted. Clear water shall be run into the upstream access and observed downstream so that
any leakage of grout into the line may be observed. Grout injection shall immediately stop on the
appearance of leakage into the line, and it shall be thoroughly flushed out and cleared of any grout.
1.5 SUBMITTALS
Before the start of work, the contractor shall submit to the engineer the following information. No
work shall be commenced until the engineer’s approval of the various submittals.
A. Grouting Plan. Description of all grouting equipment proposed for use, including but not limited
to mixers, grout pumps, delivery lines, and appurtenances. Information shall include the make,
model, year manufactured, and general condition for each item. If items are to be rented, written
verification shall be submitted that the unit will be available from the renter. Inspection of the
listed equipment may be made before award of a contract.
A description of all equipment and instruments to be used for surveys and monitoring of
