Keffeler Family Medical Scholarship Fund
“Over the past six years our mother interacted with a lot of medical professionals,” says Tim Keffeler. “From the
paramedics to the nurses and doctors who cared for her, she was so grateful for them.” This is why it was important
to the Keffeler children to include a broad range of medical professions in the criteria for the scholarship they
established as a way to remember their parents.
Medical careers come in many forms. For Larry Keffeler, it comprised of the countless prescriptions he and his wife
Joyce, a pharmacy technician, filled over 29 years at the family-owned-and-operated Harris Pharmacy. Joyce’s love
and dedication to her family and friends was also a balm of its own, nurturing her three children and seven
grandchildren with a special joy that radiates still. Now Larry and Joyce will be forever remembered through the
generosity of the many friends and family who have donated to the Keffeler Family Medical Scholarship Fund.
With each contribution to the fund this legacy grows, and the annual scholarship guarantees generations of future
Ukiah High graduates will carry on their dedication to care for others. “We hope this scholarship will encourage
young people in our community to pursue a degree in medicine, and hopefully return to Ukiah to support the local
community,” says Missy Keffeler Schat. This legacy of caring is perhaps the best medicine of all.
