Gabe Madrigal
Keffeler Family Medical Scholarship recipient
Ukiah High senior Gabe Madrigal knows the medical
system first-hand. “My sister was diagnosed with
lupus at twelve,” Gabe said. “We lived and went to
school through the Ronald McDonald house for a
year so my sister could get the right care at Stanford.”
The financial strain became too much for the family
to remain in the Bay Area and they moved to Willits.
This experience locked in Gabe’s desire to practice
medicine. He completed EMT courses in high school,
and begins at Mendocino College this fall to prepare
for a career in nursing.
His sense of purpose is what spoke to the Keffeler
family. By providing financial support and the
encouragement to pursue their dreams, Gabe and
the next generation can reach their goals rather than
opting out of college when it seems out of reach.
Like the Keffeler family, Gabe is driven by a desire to
give. “Becoming a nurse will fulfill my passion to
help others live their lives to the fullest,” he said.
Through the generosity of many people, Gabe’s
journey will begin right when the world most needs
more nurses.
