    5. ABSENCE FROM WORK
5.1 General Information
Thomas Franks expects every team member to fulfil their contractual obligations and attend their place of work on-time, unless they are genuinely ill, have pre-arranged leave or experience a domestic or childcare emergency. Repeated absences or lateness put an extra strain on every remaining member of the team and can create a less than harmonious working environment. We would ask that where absence or lateness is unavoidable, every effort should be made to allow disruption to be kept to a minimum.
Absence and illness will be regularly mointered and where it is frequent, prolonged or believed to be inappropriate, formal action will be taken: disciplinary and sick payments may be affected.
5.2 Repeated Lateness
Poor timekeeping and repeated lateness is unacceptable and puts unnecessary pressure on your colleagues. If this matter cannot be resolved with counselling, your line manager will treat the issue as a formal disciplinary matter following the procedure for progressive misconduct. Two or more incidents of lateness within a resonable period will be considered excessive.
5.3 Reporting Procedure
If you are unable to attend work for any reason, you should inform your line manager, in person, at the earliest possible opportunity to allow cover to be arranged. This should be no later than your normal start time but preferably before and must not be by text message or email. Please ensure you have the appropriate telephone numbers and emergency contact details available to you at all times.
It is then your responsibility to keep your line manager advised of the circumstances which are preventing you from attending work on a weekly basis, and your likely date of return.
Communication from a 3rd party, email or text message will not be acceptable and will be considered to be a breach of procedure warranting a formal investigation and potential disciplinary action.
