Social Media Expectations

Policy 703: Social Media Policy
     OBJECTIVE:
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale has a social media presence and
 is aware that employees may have a social media presence as well. The
 protection of the Club Brand is everyone’s responsibility. Expectations have
 been established to ensure the appropriate use of social media as it relates
 to the promotion of Club information and Member experiences.

For the purposes of this procedure, “social media” is defined as media designed to be interactive, including, but not limited to, any site or platform that incorporates user generated content, such as blogs, microblogs, social networking, audio, photo, video sharing, and virtual world software.
While nothing in this procedure should be construed as limiting employee’s First Amendment Rights, BGCS believes that employees should separate personal and professional relationships in online communities and platforms. This policy is intended to regulate the use of social media by employees, including employees’ personal use of social media, only when that use: interferes with the work of the Clubs; harasses coworkers or members/guardians; creates a hostile work environment; breaches confidentiality obligations of BGCS employees; disrupts the mission; harms the goodwill and reputation of BGCS in the community; violates the law, board policies and/or other Club rules and policies; or facilitates inappropriate contact with member, their families or guardians.
• Staff and volunteers must sign a Social Networking Code of Conduct agreement.
• Staff and volunteers must refrain from inappropriate forms of communication on social media.
• Do not represent yourself as a spokesperson for the Clubs unless assigned to do so by Marketing & Communications Department.
• Club sites will not create social media accounts unless written approval is given by Marketing & Communications Department.
• Ensure that an updated photo release is on file for any member
photographed.
• Staff and volunteers are not allowed to post photos of members on
personal social media accounts.
• Refrain from using social media while on work time or on the
equipment BGCS provides unless it is work-related or required as
part of a Club program.
• Do not register using the Club email address on any social media
platforms for personal use.
