Safety Through Supervision
Policy No. 400 – Eyes on Supervision of Members
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale strives to ensure that our Club is a safe, affordable place for youth during non-school hours and during school breaks. Our youth develop ongoing relationships with caring, dedicated and specially trained youth development staff. Youth participate in staff led programs and activities. Staff are always expected to maintain visual supervision of members while engaged in a program area. Accidents and incidents are minimized when eyes on supervision is provided.
Policy No. 401 – Staff Cell Phone Usage
Personal cell phones should not be in use during your shift at the branch. Club members require your undivided attention. Branch employees should not receive personal phone calls during work hours. In the case of an emergency the office will take a message and deliver it to the staff member.
Policy No. 402 – Staff to Member Ratio
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale has a goal staff to member ratio in branches to not exceed 1:20. All program staff and adult volunteers may be included in the ratios. Jr. Staff count in the ratio as an assistant and cannot serve as lead. Goal field trip ratios are 1:8-14. The field trip ratio depends on age of members, field trip location and type of activity. See Field Trip Policy for specific details regarding field trips.
Policy No. 403 – Full Time Coverage of Buildings
For full-service Club branches, there must be 1 full-time staff and 1 part-time Program Instructor in the building at all times during services to youth members until the last member leaves.
Any other exceptions must be pre-approved by the Chief Executive Officer.
Policy No. 404 – Exit and Entry Coverage
During hours of program operation, the Club must staff the front desk. All visitors (youth, parents/guardians, guests) must be greeted and assisted. No person will be allowed to enter the branch without first checking in at the designated check-in desk. Anyone refusing to do so shall be warned and
