Summer School Policy
Students are required to repeat failed courses needed for graduation. A student may attend an administratively
approved summer school during the summer immediately following the failure. Students who have received a
final grade less than 55 must repeat that subject and cannot attend summer school. Financial arrangements for
summer school and/or online equivalent are the responsibility of the parent. Students who fail a required subject,
and who do not attend summer school, will be scheduled for that class without consultation by their counselor for
the upcoming school year.
Testing Requirements/Remedial Courses
Students are tested annually to determine their level of proficiency. Any student who is not able to meet
minimum proficiency levels as determined by the New Jersey State testing or a district approved standardized
test must participate in remedial programs. Students must demonstrate required skill competencies in the
mandated state testing program or satisfy alternatives prescribed by state regulations in order to receive a state
endorsed high school diploma. The Pine Hill Public School District is required to provide remediation to any
student who has been identified as "at risk" of not passing the high school testing graduation requirement of the
NJSLA testing. Courses have been designed to support the student's general academic success, as well as trying
to ensure success on these assessments. Student schedules may be affected by performance on standardized
tests, i.e. PSAT, PARCC etc.
Personal Learning Options (Option II Policy)
Students may apply to take Option II courses. Students are required to complete an application process and
submit all required information by the district approved deadline. Specific categories include: credit recovery,
advanced/original credit, college credit, independent study and service learning. Please see the district’s Option
II guidelines for specific information.
