OVERVIEW (FT Title)
New reference guide/job aid documents are created using a predefined Word template file for the team. The template file,
designed using Microsoft Word styles, helps standardize formatting by defining various style elements in the template.
Formatting similar paragraphs (e.g., titles) is easy as you only need to highlight your title, select the proper style, and Word
applies the correct formatting (font size, font color, spacing, etc.). The use of styles helps ensure consistency when multiple
individuals are authoring documents. (FT Body 10.5)
The Finance team standard template files (the main document and the cover page document) will need to be copied to your
laptop’s hard drive before you can begin to use them. If you have not already copied the Finance team standard template files
previously, see Word Template Files later in this document. (FT Body 10.5 for paragraph as a whole)
2BIf you have never used Word styles before, consider watching the YouTube video entitled How to Use
Styles in Microsoft Word for an explanation of the benefits of using styles and how to apply them.

4BWhen you follow the steps below to create a new Word document based on the team’s master reference guide template, the
new document will have example style text, example tables, and more details of the styles listed above. You may choose to
copy and paste these examples/text and once your document is complete the example styles and text can be deleted before
you finalize your document. (FT Body 10.5)
To assist you in identifying where the styles above are applied throughout this document, they are noted at the end of the
lines in bold red. There are many instances in this document where the FT Emphasis style (FT Emphasis) and the FT
Hyperlink styles (FT Hyperlink) are used to highlight key text and hyperlinks, respectively. Due to these styles being used
within paragraphs, they are not highlighted where used except for in this paragraph.
