University of Bedfordshire Officer wins Securitas

                                             Purpose Award

University of Bedfordshire Relief Officer, Stephen-Lee Ryan
was recognised at the 2022 Securitas Community Awards,
when he received The Purpose Award.
“The Purpose Award recognises colleagues who truly live by
our Purpose #we help make your world a safer place and who
role model our values: Integrity, Vigilance and Helpfulness.
Stephen’s story Stephen-Lee Ryan lives and breathes our
purpose and values. A great example of this was when he was
working his shift at the University of Bedfordshire. A student
had spilt up from their partner and had been kicked out of the
property without anywhere to stay or any family close by to
help. The student headed to the closest campus to see if any
accommodation was available, but the campus was closed.
Stephen-Lee spotted him looking very distressed at the front
door, so he sat down with him, listened to the situation and was determined to help out. Stephen-
Lee then spent hours contacting everyone he could think of to find somewhere temporary for the
student to stay. When all hope was lost, the crisis team at the university got back in touch and
had found a room for a few weeks. This gave the student time to find the perfect flat to live in for
the rest of the academic year. “
Winners JUDGE’S COMMENT “This is such a heart-warming example of an act of kindness and
compassion by someone who truly understands and lives by our values. Not only did Stephen-
Lee reassure and comfort the distressed student, he also went out of his way to make sure the
person was safe. Well done Stephen-Lee, you are a credit to Securitas UK. “
