The Pathfinder trip is an experience which helps siudenls to develop an understanding of the
great outdoors. From January 23 to 24,2002, the eighth graders demonstrated their skills
and endurance by performing a variety of tasks at a camp near Tampa. As part of the trip the girls
showed their strength by canoeing down a river and experienced what it was like for those who
had to travel the Underground Railroad. Although some students acknowledged the difficulty,
others enjoyed the challenge. The trip strengthened friendships as well as students’
self-confidence. It gave the students a chance to appreciate history and realize how people of
the past have made it belter for people living today.
