This year, Carrollton Robotics took a new shape! The team started off with the BEST Competition. The task
was to build a robot, using the limited supplies given by the competition, that would be able to pick up bal
loons and transport them to containers. The team went to Florida's BEST State Competition and placed sec
ond! This qualified them for the National Competition, held at Auburn University in Alabama. Considering
it was the team's first year, this was quite an accomplishment! Immediately after, the team started building
BattleBots, 120 pound robots built for combat. The girls took classes that taught them the "ins and outs"
of BattleBots. Using that knowledge, the girls spent months building their robots. Carrollton sent 8 teams
to the BattleBots IQ Competition, from April 22-24, 2004, in Owatanna, MN. The teams fought to the
death and had a great time doing so! At the end of the competition, Microsoft and DARPA chose Carrollton,
along with Starbot, as one of the three top Robotics programs in the country!! The team had a great year!
Congratulations to all the teams!
